Beaten by a Length, Neck, Head or Less
With “beaten by” refunds, if your horse is beaten by a length, neck, head or less you will receive a free bet equaling your stake if the horse that you back is beaten by the amount that is stated in the offer.
Sometimes you also get beaten by a trainer, jockey or owner and these refunds act in exactly the same way, you need your horse to be beaten by a particular trainer, or owner to trigger the refund
The first thing to understand is how much each distance is:
Is the length of a horse, which is approximately 8ft – It is represented as a 1 or less (1/2 , ¼) in results.
is 0.3 of a length and is represented in results as a nk
is 0.2 of a length and is represented in results as hd
To see how your horse performed and how far behind the winner it came, we recommend using Sporting life, click on your race and then look at the distance column.
How to Complete a “Beaten By” Reload
To take advantage of this reload, you simply need to place a back and lay on a horse and then hope that it gets beaten by the amount stipulated in the reload or less. Beaten by a length or less is the best reload as your horse can lose by a greater distance, then neck, then head. If you complete the reload beaten by a length or less you will still get the refund if your horse is beaten by a neck or a head.
Tips for Finding Good Horses and Races to Bet On
Look for races where there are a number of horses with similar odds, this means that the race is open. Look for races where there are 2 or more horses at low odds, but fairly evenly matched. This would suggest a close race between 2 horses. Pick one and hope that it is beaten by the amount to trigger the refund.
When you get the refund for races beaten by a trainer, jockey or owner, look for races where that selected horse is a heavy favourite (2.5 or less). This will stand you a better chance of hitting the refund.
