PROVIDING YOU WITH ALL THE BEST BETS
First of all, before we take a look at Zeturf in details, is to explain how tote betting actually works:
Tote betting is a type of betting that is different from the fixed-odds betting offered by most bookmakers. In tote betting, bettors select an outcome and bet on it. The money from all bets placed on a market is put into a single pool of funds. A deduction is made by the provider, and then the entire remaining pool is divided proportionally among those who placed winning bets. More people tend to bet on favourites, so when a favourite wins, the pool of winnings is divided by more people and the winnings per person are smaller.
Conversely, fewer people tend to bet on outsiders, so when an outsider wins, the pool is divided by fewer people and the winnings per person are greater. Because you won’t know how much was bet on the market or how many picked the winning outcome until afterwards, you can’t know the odds you’re placing bets at until after the market settles. However, for favourites in popular markets, the effective odds of tote bets are usually close to the starting price at bookies.
When it comes to betting on favourites in UK / Ireland horse racing, as mentioned above the odds the tote will pay out at will (in most cases) reflect the starting price at the bookies.
One simple way is to wait until close to the start of the event and use the current lowest odds at bookies (you can find this at oddschecker.com) to estimate the odds you will get. With tote betting, it really does not matter at what time you place your bets, you won’t receive any worse odds than a user who placed a bet at early odds before the horse steams in or drifts out.
The stronger the favourite, the more likely it is that the odds you eventually receive will be close to the starting price the bookies offer.
Zeturf quote a pretty healthy €250 free bets welcome offer! This is divided into a number of different offers, so let´s take a closer look at each stage:
There is lots to get your teeth into here, I don’t remember the extra €190 being in place when I originally signed up back in 2018. The first €60 in bonus funds are really easy to take advantage of, the first €20 will be credited as soon as you deposit €20, followed by €20 30 days after deposit and another €20 60 days after initial deposit. These bonuses are stake returned (not like normal free bets provided by bookmakers).
Zeturf provides a wide range of horse racing events - including jumps, flat and harness from all around the world. As I’m really only interested in UK & Ireland races, you will have to wait until a a prominent UK race becomes available. (e.g. AINTREE below)
Below Min is a strong favourite, the odds of 2.1 on the Zeturf will change and won’t reflect the odds you will receive from the tote (as explained above, the odds will only be calculated once the race has started and all bets are in).
With our first deposit welcome bonus (€20 deposit & €20 bonus), we can place this all at the same time if we wish. If we opt for a single win only bet - we select this by selecting the “SG” button, then ticking the checkbox that is added next to the odds. This will then add the bet to the betting slip, where we can place up to €40.
Note - usually on a bookmakers website you will see the name of the horse in the betting slip, however all you will see here is an alphanumeric value, please double check this is correct before placing. We can see below we see “R7C4” - this refers to Race 7, Horse No 4.
Once you are happy click the “Validate” button, which will place the bet.
Zeturf does have a vast array of different markets available to bet on, which will all work in the same way - odds will be calculated by the tote once all the bets are in.
Wait until a few minutes before the start of the race, and then use oddschecker.com to look up the lowest current odds of your selection at the bookies.
We can see from the oddschecker table, William Hill, Paddy Power, Unibet & 10Bet all show the lowest decimal odds a few minutes before the race start time as 2.0.
This is an estimate to determine roughly the odds you may receive, there is a change the odds can be lower if Min is the only horse in the race being backed heavily on Zeturf, then once all the funds are added to a single pool, it will be divided by a larger number of bets and therefore will push the odds down. On the other hand, if Min is a weak favourite at Zeturf, and the majority of the bets are coming for the second favorite Balko Des Flos - once all the funds are added into a single pool and divided, you may find the odds for Min jump out to 2.5.
As you can see the tote works differently to bookmakers who have fixed odds. Once you understand the process and the way the Zeturf website works in regards to the right markets to select, you are pretty much ready to go!
In the example above using Min, we selected a strong favourite to place our €40 first deposit cash and bonus funds on. You don’t need to place the entire balance all in one go, you can go with lots of smaller bets. If high price outsiders are your love, you may find the odds provided on the tote can be a lot higher than at a bookmaker and even the betting exchanges.
Well worth a go, easy €60 in stake returned bonuses on offer over the first few months of using the account, so why not give them a go today and see how much you will love the tote and Zeturf.
