Over the past four seasons, it can’t be argued from any perspective that Manchester City have been the dominant team. Having won the Premier League for a record four times in a row, fending off Arsenal in the past two seasons, who seemed to have returned to form in recent years, followed by a two-horse race with Liverpool, and then fending off Derby rivals Manchester United in the 2020/21 season, However, the focus today is not on them, but it is in fact the last team to win the Premier League who weren’t Manchester City, and that of course is Liverpool F.C. The last time they won the title was back in the 2019–20 season, which was in fact the first time they had won the Premier League, as it is now referred to.

What are their chances?

And so if you’re looking at EPL odds, how safe is your money if you go to put it on Liverpool F.C. to pip Manchester City to the title this season and end their four-season run of holding the title of the best football team in the United Kingdom? Well, of course, the main difference with Liverpool this season is that they are without Klopp, who left the club after many seasons with them, leading them to European and domestic glory. And now Arne Slot has taken over the helm. His high-pressure attacking style has been compared to that of Klopps, and his playing style has also become synonymous with Liverpool as a club, which led to him being the preferred man for the role.

A return to Europe’s top football

Well, this season, Liverpool are back in the Champions League after a season out, and so this is something they will have to take into account as this includes more games and more travelling for a team that has struggled with depth and injuries in recent seasons. Although if you look at the start of the season, which is usually the period at which Liverpool hit the ground running, the fixtures have been kind. With most of these fixtures being games that Liverpool are heavy favourites to bring home 3 points for each of the games, The only game that they don’t look comfortable winning is a trip out to Old Trafford to face Manchester United on September 1st.

Head-to-head

When it comes to Liverpool against Manchester City directly, the Reds do in fact remain unbeaten. It was other games, however, that Liverpool were expecting to win comfortably last season, which saw them drop points and, subsequently, following this start, slowly find themselves falling behind in what was a three-horse race between Arsenal and Manchester City. It is also going to be an uphill challenge for a slot who doesn’t necessarily have any experience that could be compared to what the Premier League demands of managers within its roster. It is commonly agreed upon as being the most competitive league in the world.

In Summary

Today we haven’t specifically predicted whether Liverpool will lift the title from City’s clutches this season, but instead we have tried to give you as much information as possible so that you know what kind of position Liverpool are in going into this season. It also remains to be seen if the Reds are going to make any more signings before the end of the summer transfer window as they look to bolster their squad towards full strength to give them as much of a fighting chance as possible of being able to lift the Premier League trophy again.
