Whether you are completely new to roulette, or looking to find out more about the different roulette bets, you've come to the right place. Let's dive into these bets, which can be split into 2 distinct categories - outside and inside bets.
Outside Bets
Outside bets are perhaps the most classic type of bet when playing any form of roulette. They are particularly popular with beginners as they allow players to cover several numbers in a single bet. Whilst classic online roulette games like European Roulette From Bellagio or MGM Grand, Lightning Roulette, or Roulette First Person are all entirely down to luck, outside bets can increase your chance at winning as they cover more of the table. That said, the return to player (RTP) percentage will be lowered, paying out less to players in the event of a win.
The most common outside bets are red or black, odd or even, high or low, column bets, and dozens. Starting with the most self-explanatory and beginner-friendly bets, red or black bets simply mean you place your wager on whether the numbered pocket in which the ball lands will be a red pocket or a green pocket. Similarly, you can place your bet on whether the number on the pocket will be an odd number or an even number. Whether European or American roulette, each wheel has numbers from 1 to 36. Splitting them in half, 1 to 18 are the low numbers, and 19 to 36 are the high numbers. With this in mind, another even money bet is to predict whether the number will be high or low.
Our next two outside bets focus on the set-up of the roulette table. Each table has a grid which is split into three columns of 12 numbers. For column bets, players wager on all the numbers in a single column. The table can also be divided into 3 sets of 12 consecutive numbers, otherwise known as a dozen. As you may have guessed, dozen bets allow players to bet on whether the winning number is between 1 and 12, 13 and 24, or 25 and 36.

Inside Bets
On the other hand, inside bets can be a bit more complex. These bets have a lower win chance, but wins can come with higher RTPs and higher payouts for one of these higher risk wins. Perhaps the most common inside bet is called 'straight up'. This involves placing a bet on any single number on the roulette wheel, including 0 or 00 depending on your preferred game style. You can place as many straight-up bets as you like on a single spin.
Looking again to the roulette table rather than the wheel, you can also place bets on a variety of combinations of numbers, too. For example, a split bet is 2 adjacent numbers on the table, a street or row bet is 3 adjacent numbers, and a 6 line bet is 6 consecutive numbers.
In American roulette, you can find a 5 number bet that is distinctive to that playing style. The basket bet or, more colloquially, the sucker, specifically refers to betting on 0, 00, and numbers 1 to 3.
And there you have it - all the basics you need to know about the different types of bets available to players of all skill levels in the game of roulette. Good luck!
